Yun Shi wanted an answer but feared what it might be.
"You wanted to discipline Jinyi today?" Wei Mingting was a little surprised.
Jinyi had always avoided conflicts within the mansion and had little interaction with Yun Shi.
"Yes, I did intend to punish him today."
"And why?"
"I wanted Jinyi to Jinyi would help introduce Yichen to Master Zanglin. Since they are brothers, it’s only natural for them to help each other. But he not only refused my request, he also showed me no respect as his mother and spoke with arrogance. So, I thought a light punishment, such as having him kneel in the ancestral hall, would be appropriate."
In Yun Shi’s mind, there was nothing wrong with what she did. As a mother, it was perfectly reasonable to have her two sons support each other.
If her son acted against her, it was only natural to discipline him.
After explaining, she looked at her husband, observing his tightly furrowed brow and deeply contemplative expression.
"Husband, do you think I was wrong?" Yun Shi asked anxiously.
"It’s not that you were wrong… But please, do not involve yourself with Jinyi’s affairs. If he’s unwilling to do something, don’t force him." Wei Mingting replied.
His response was unexpected to Yun Shi, and she felt hurt, "Why? Why can’t I?"
"I can’t explain this to you fully at the moment."
"Are you doing this because of Jinyi’s mother?" Yun Shi couldn’t help but speculate. She could think of no other reason for her husband’s actions.
In an instant, tears filled Yun Shi’s eyes.
For so many years, she had refrained from mentioning that woman, forcing herself not to be a jealous wife.
But now, seeing her husband’s exceptional protection of a concubine’s son, feelings of unspoken resentment and sadness, buried deep within, surged uncontrollably.
Seeing his wife’s tears, Wei Mingting quickly said, "Madam, please don’t overthink. This has little to do with Jinyi’s mother…"
"If it’s not related, why do this? Or does my husband think I was wrong to ask Jinyi to help introduce Yichen to Master Zanglin?" Yun Shi asked.
All these years, Yun Shi had always obeyed her husband’s words, doing whatever he asked. But today, she was determined to get to the bottom of it.
"You did nothing wrong. It’s just that Jinyi is a bit special to me, so I hope you don’t treat him like a typical concubine’s son." Wei Mingting replied, clearly troubled.
But Wei Mingting’s words only conveyed a different meaning to Yun Shi.
"Special… How so?" she pressed.
"Madam, it’s not what you think." Wei Mingting denied once again but couldn’t offer further explanation.
Although her husband denied that it was related to Jinyi’s mother, his actions hinted at his preference for that woman.
It was a favor she, his wife, had never received.
"So, could you at least tell me her name, where she’s from?" Yun Shi persisted, unwilling to let it go.
She knew very little about that woman. Years ago, her husband had been away for a year and returned with a child in his arms. She felt great pain but couldn’t say anything.
She forced herself to refrain from questioning her husband about the child’s mother or dwelling on the memories he might have shared with that woman during that time.

As understandable as her feelings are, the only reason she is lashing out at Jinyi is because she can't do it to his mother. She's not there.
And in her jealousy she's not seeing things for what they are, like, why wouldn't a father being loving, protective, and fair to all his children? Oh, perhaps because Yun Shi is incredibly biased and she'll give preferential treatment to the other three, but not Ruo Ruo and the second son. The fact he's not invited to eat with them unless she wants something from him tells that. Even if he's a concubines son, he eats by himself everyday, but never once did Yun Shi or her children think he could be lonely or offer an innocent child warmth. And she's allowed not to be around him, but to pretend to be his mother and discipline him when she's never been kind to him is just too much!
